Meeting Diego
This is Diego Dominguez. 
Diego is a 13 year old whose family moved to the States from Venezuela. He is fairly bright and friendly but because of a freak breast feeding accident he has developed what is commonly called “Bilingual Illiteracy.” In other words, he struggles with both of his languages, Spanish and English. This causes him problems when trying to communicate via the written word.
He is also afflicted, as many young boys are, with some, how can we say, physical limitations. Whether this was caused by lack of oxygen during the “accident” or just the fact he has never had a stable home life, Diego has some issues he deals with on a daily basis. The main ones seem to be incontinence and an uncontrolled preoccupation with the children’s cartoon hero “Dora The Explorer”. Other than these quirks in his nature, Diego is a kind, thoughtful child who is desperate to make a friend with Kaleb Anderson who lives in Phoenix. Diego had attended a Summer Adventure Camp with Kaleb’s brother Jacob a couple of years before. It is this connection he used to reach out to Kaleb in a series of emails that have since become the classic tale of friendship.
